Are you recruiting like it was the 1960s?
Here is the Text for that Ad
“CLERICAL OFFICE STAFF – There are always many interesting and rewarding vacancies as Secretaries, Shorthand Typists, Telephonists, Clerks and Book-keeper Typists in London. Joan Lysaght can arrange employment and accommodation if required before you leave Ireland. Full details of religious and social activities, wage deductions and accommodation charges. Further details, call or Write: Staff and Secretarial Bureau Ltd., 63-4 Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin (over Royal Bank). No fees. Phone 47011/2.”
As you can see by the advert, apart from the description, what really is missing? It is the attraction, the branding, the carrot to get applicants to apply. There were very little avenues when advertising and applying for jobs back then. Write a letter or make a call. This advert is for local candidates in Dublin to apply to the agency to work in London.
How times have changed.
Recently, a recruitment organisation called Thompson and Thompson Sales and Marketing shared video interviews to key decision makers in New Zealand.
Scenario: A client wants to hire staff in Australia. The candidates are mostly in regional Australia and the client is offshore. Nine questions have been designed by the client. Thompson and Thompson use the questions and send a link through FaceCruit software for the candidates to answer. The candidates open a link and view marketing videos and documentation and are then recorded by video answering the questions. When they have finished Thompson and Thompson receive an email that the interview is complete and share suitable candidates with the employer (client) for them to review (done by inviting a reviewer). The advantages are huge!
The employer or candidate do not have to organise Skype meetings, no travel, quick screening process, all done in the candidates and employers own designated time.
